Freeholder E. Marie Hayes and the Board of Chosen Freeholders invite the public to take a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus during “Santa’s Family Workshop” on Saturday, December 14th from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
This free, family event, hosted by the Board of Chosen Freeholders, will also include crafts, education stations, entertainment and treats. After telling Santa your wish list for Christmas, stroll through the zoo and see the more than 500 animals that call the Cape May County Zoo home – including our new snow leopard cubs, giraffe and bison. Freeholder Hayes said, “This free holiday event is a way for us to share the joy of the season with our residents and visitors to the Cape May County Zoo.” So take your camera and the entire family to the Cape May County Zoo for a day of holiday fun. The Cape May County Zoo is located at 707 Route 9 North in Cape May Court House (Exit 11 off the Garden State Parkway). New Brunswick City Market is hosting their 21st Annual Tree lighting and chili cookoff competition on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 5 pm to 7 pm. The festivities will be in front of theatres at Monument Square by the Heldrich Hotel.
The Christmas Tree lighting in New Brunswick includes live performances from many local bands, live entertainment, the chili cookoff competition, a scavenger hunt, free horse drawn carriage rides and a visit from Santa Claus! December 1, Sunday, 5:30pm at the North Ave. Train Station The tree lighting is sponsored by Downtown Westfield Corporation, with hot chocolate, hot cider and entertainment by the Community Band of Westfield. Come greet Santa & Mrs. Claus as they arrive for the annual tree lighting on the fire truck at 5:30pm. Note: A collection box will be available at the Tree Lighting for the Girl Scouts Annual Mitten Tree Project. Franklin Junior Troop #645 will be collecting new mittens, gloves, hats, scarves and socks for needy families throughout New Jersey. Donations will be distributed as gifts during the holiday season to local charities. The Garden State Discovery Museum in Cherry Hill will host several holiday celebrations in December. Kids can enjoy a buffet-style Breakfast with Santa and songs and stories from 10 am to 12:30 pm on December 10. Pre-registration is required and the cost is $8 for members and $15 for non-members (plus tax). Space is limited. Other events at the museum include:
Don't miss the Winter Holiday Spectacular at the New Jersey Children's Museum in Paramus. Each exhibit will be festively decorated and on December 10, 11, 17 and 18, kids can listen to holiday songs, special stories and watch puppet shows - and meet Santa. Admission is $14.99 per child and $10 per adult and for additional fees, kids can participate in special activities including meet-and-greets with princesses and a holiday craft. Historic Smithville has some holiday fun for families including the Holiday Light Show, an orchestrated show of lights and music played out across the lake 5:30 - 8 pm, running until Jan. 2.
Each weekend in December, Smithville also offers a Christmas Train ride to see the decorated village, a Magical Talking Tree and a free story time with Mrs. Claus in her Christmas Cottage from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. On December 10 and 17, families can go to Fred and Ethel's Lantern Light Tavern for a buffet breakfast with Santa. There also will be a chance for a picture with Santa. For more information, call 609-652-0544. Holiday events in Clinton include the Annual Christmas Parade at 7 pm Dec. 2 with more than 40 floats, live performances and Santa's arrival. On December 15 from 6 pm to 9:30 pm, enjoy shopping and the festive atmosphere of the historic district with horse and carriage rides (for a small fee), caroling, and luminaries lining the streets for that special holiday glow. On December 18, Santa is back in town from 1 pm to 3 pm on Main Street.
