New! Little Angels Princess Event (Egg Harbor City) -Jersey Shore Children's Museum presents the Spring Princess Tea Party on April 24 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm; at Tuscany House Hotel at Renault Winery Resort; tea sandwiches and treats and special appearances by Little Angels Princess Events; $39 per person; for reservations, contact Little Angels Princess Events

That's Not My Princess (Usborne Touchy Feely) - by Fiona Watt; a great introduction to your baby princess
Bella and the Royal Fairy Wedding - by Anna Nilsen - it's sometimes listed as a "lift the flap" or "pop-up" book but doesn't have loads of flaps; children lift one big flap on each page to reveal part of the story and the final page is a pop-up scene; a cute and colorfully illustrated tale for a baby or toddler
One Pretty Princess- by Heather Au - a short, rhyming story that any young princess would love; this may be hard to find in a bookstore but your local library may have it

Princess for a Day: A Clementine and Mungo Story - Clementine's poor brother, Mungo, must cater to all his sister's needs when she decides to be a princess for a day; an amusing read for ages 3 & up

Disney's Storybook Collection - get all the classic stories of your favorite princesses in one book
Disney's 5 Minute Princess Stories - by Liza Baker - short versions of the princess tales for the quick read
Princess Me - by Karma Wilson - a nice book with a simple story and good rhythm for reading
The Paper Princess - by Elisa Kleven - a cute story about a little girl who draws a princess that comes to life; part of a series
The Princess Knight - by Cornelia Funke - a nice story about a princess who comes to her own rescue
Princesses Are Not Perfect - by Kate Lum - a tale of three princesses who don't excel at everything - and that's ok (also another book called Princesses Are Not Quitters)
Princess Bess Gets Dressed - by Margery Cuyler - a cute rhyming tale of a little princess who loves dressing up for various royal functions throughout the day; but, surprise, her favorite outfit is her underwear and twirling around unencumbered before falling into bed
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - illustrated and retold by Laura Ljungkvist; the story is streamlined with slight variations on the classic tale but your modern princess will still recognize the story and enjoy the uniquely illustrated pages; another neat thing is a continuous line that is drawn through each illustration

Julie Andrews & Emma Walton Hamilton - a nice story about how a little girl can have skinned knees and get dirty and still be a fairy princess

Step Into Reading: Princesses - Disney books for young readers; several in the series, such as A Pony for a Princess, feature princesses and help your princess to enhance her reading skills
The Princess and the Pea - by Lauren Child - expanded version of the classic tale by Hans Christian Anderson with color photographs of a three-dimensional miniature world of dolls
The Usborne Book of Fairy Tales - by Heather Amery
The Pirate Princess And Other Fairy Tales - by Neil Philip - seven fairy tales adapted from the stories written by a seventeenth-century Hasidic rabbi
Chickerella by Mary Jane Auch - the Cinderella story with a poultry plot; the nice thing for modern princesses is that Chickerella doesn't have to marry the prince to live happily ever after

This story pokes a little fun at some of the fairy tales while providing another self-sufficient princess tale. Suggested age group is kindergarten to Gr 2 but some preschoolers will enjoy it.

The Pre-Teen/Teen Princess
The Usborne Book of Kings & Queens (Famous Lives Series) - This book is more on Kings and Queens than princesses but some who love princesses might be intererested in other royalty throughout history; this book should be available at most libraries and is often for sale at Amazon (ages 9-12)

Disney Princess Magazine - you can buy a subscription through Amazon or other retailers; some libraries also have copies
Disney Princess site - interactive site that lets you choose a Disney character and hear each one's story, play games & more
Dress Up Princess - free site that allows the older child to pick a princess & her outfits
