Sports Illustrated Kids: All Access Will Be a Hit for All Ages This Holiday
By Mark Housel
Sports Illustrated Kids: All Access is a book that takes you behind the scenes of many sports, to places that only the pros can go. This book also gives readers information about some of these athletes that you wouldn’t hear in most interviews.
Just a few highlights are:
My two oldest sons, six and nine years old, really enjoyed sharing the book together. My oldest son liked the pictures from inside the locker rooms the best, while my middle son preferred reading about some professional athletes and their pets. His favorite was reading about Philadelphia Eagles Linebacker Earnie Sims and his zoo-like house. There is an interesting story about when Sims’ mom found a tarantula in his room!
My personal favorite was comparing my hand to Shaquille O’Neal’s. (No wonder he has trouble shooting free throws with those things!)
The book has a unique cover which feels like a basketball with the stitches of a baseball and football. It has great pictures and interesting stories. I know the book is supposed to be All Access for Kids, but it truly offers something for every sports fan both young and old.
You can purchase the book for about $13.50 (hardcover) from retailers including Walmart, Barnes & Noble and Amazon (which had best price with free shipping)

Just a few highlights are:
- sneak peeks from behind the “Green Monster”. It tells about and shows the inter-workings of the famous left field wall at Fenway Park.
- the inside of a NASCAR transporter with one of seven interesting “lift and look” pages. The transporters are the trucks used to get race cars from one race to the next.
- you can see the evolution of football shoulder pads
- take a look at the inside of a baseball
- observe the stages of transforming the Los Angeles Staples Center from a Kings ice hockey game to a Clippers basketball court - a feat accomplished in just under 4 hours.
